表扬 (biǎoyáng= praise) vs. 赞扬 (zànyáng=praise)

1. 表扬 (biǎoyáng= praise): 对好人好事公开(gōngkāi=to publish)称赞(chēngzàn=to praise)。表扬 is used to praise someone’s skill, kindness, good looking.

Example 1:

Today I was praised by the mayor.

今天我被市长(shìzhǎng)表扬(biǎo​yáng)了。(skill)

Example 2:

这和我表扬帅哥老板有什么关系呢？(his kindness/good looking)

2. 赞扬 (zànyáng=praise): 称赞(chēngzàn=to praise)，称扬。对他的本领（běnlǐng=skill, ability, capability）大肆(dàsì= unbridled)赞扬(zànyáng=to praise). 赞扬 is used to praise someone’s skill, ability and capability.

Example 1: (skill)

今天我被市长(shìzhǎng) 赞扬(zànyáng)了。

Example 2:

这和我赞扬(zànyáng)帅哥老板有什么关系呢？(skill)

尽管 (j ǐ n ​ gu ǎ n=even though) is stronger in meaning and tone than 虽然 (=though, even though) and what follows 尽管 is a fact that already exists in the context. 尽管 indicates that in spite of a certain fact, it makes no difference to the situation, 尽管 and 还是 should be used together. 虽然 may or may not have this implication. Here we will learn the difference between 则 and 却 when both means 'but'. Grammar: S1VP1 ，而 S2 则 / 却 VP2.
